Kamen Rider Zero-One: A Hero's Journey

In the midst of danger, Kamen Rider Zero-One's Aruto finds himself on the brink of disaster when Ragnarok threatens to skewer him. Fortunately, Vulcan and Valkyrie arrive just in time to lend a hand. This issue marks a significant improvement over its live-action counterpart, as it ditches the cheesiness that often accompanies the TV show.

One of the standout aspects of this comic is its depiction of power displays. Prasetya and Valenza have done an excellent job of capturing the Kamen Rider aesthetic, with cool armor designs, high-flying martial arts action, and sleek science-fiction gadgets. The big blasts, crackling lightning, and explosive weapons are particularly noteworthy.

The character work in this issue is also commendable, with Aruto's desire to be better and his subsequent shortcomings making him a relatable and endearing hero. His training montage, courtesy of the Kamen Rider equivalent of a Danger Room, allows him to hone his combat thinking and improve his skills. Aruto's heart and courage are admirable, but his reckless actions often create too much damage, leaving him with a lot to learn.

Easton and Clarke's script does an excellent job of showing Aruto as a hero who is still learning and growing. His inability to think before acting puts him at risk of being taken advantage of by Ragnarok, making this issue a thrilling ride. Ultimately, Kamen Rider Zero-One #2 follows the proper hero's journey formula, showcasing the hero trying and failing before finding the key to unlock his full potential.

As Aruto continues on his path towards becoming a better hero, fans can look forward to more exciting adventures and character development. With its blend of action, science fiction, and heart, Kamen Rider Zero-One is shaping up to be an unforgettable series.
